György Cziffra is a Hungarian pianist. He is most famous for his interpretations of works by Franz Liszt.
If we are already talking about virtuosity, then, in my opinion, Cziffra can be safely called one of the best.
Nature certainly played its part here.
I never put finger fluency first, but there are pianists who simply dazzle the audience with their phenomenal technique..!
And these virtuosos are often excellent musicians, that's why they have such fantastic a technique. One is immediately reminded of Heinrich Neuhaus's statement: “The greater the talent, the better the technique must be”.
All of the pianists in our top list have marvelous technique! But...
It's all hard work. It's a lifetime of hard work. I'm sure that György Zifra worked hard, but personally I don't think he spent more time at the instrument than other great pianists.
Nature gave it to him, and he used it skillfully.
If you want a technique like Cziffra's, you should defenitely take my course Hanon Virtuoso Pianist.
And it's not just about technique.
Many people admire the pianist Kissin. But listen to one of Kisin's best recordings, when he plays the Campanella encore as a young man. It's kind of spectacular. But.. Then listen to Cziffra. And then listen to Kissin again, but don't look at him, just listen. And then Cziffra again. And you'll understand everything.
Someone told me that Cziffra was seriously ill. He also went to war.
Write in the comments if you know any interesting stories from the life of this amazing pianist.
