An outstanding pianist. Considered one of Scriabin's best performers!
By the way, he was married to his eldest daughter. He gave many concerts and was engaged in teaching.
Sofronitsky's repertoire was not limited to Scriabin's works. He gave cycles of concerts at which he played music from Buxtehude (Baroque) to Shostakovich (contemporary music during Sofronitsky's lifetime). He was famous for his stunning performances of works by Schumann and Rachmaninoff.
He didn't like concert recordings, he called them his “corpses”. He thought that they could not convey the atmosphere reigning in the hall during the performance.
What fans called their idol! They said that he was a musical hypnothezer, compared his concerts to a spiritual liturgy. They said that, during Alexander Scriabin's performance, they enter poetic nirvana!
Vladimir Sofronitsky is also known for his palindromes - words and phrases that read equally in both directions.
Avoided all kinds of intrigue. He led a simple, modest and rather withdrawn way of life.
The holder of many state awards. In the post-war period he was called the best pianist!
