Pianist Richter

Sviatoslav Richter is the best and unrivaled for so many pianists. There are still legends about Sviatoslav Richter.

A man with a very complicated fate. Who is interested in piano art, be sure to watch the movie about this truly great pianist, which is called "Enigma".

I want to warn you that the impressions after watching this documentary are very strong. And these impressions do not always encourage pianists to work at the piano. Often, after watching this movie, pianists, on the contrary, become discouraged.

Why? Too much "Greatness", too high a bar. Unattainable, even.

Listen to Chopin's 4th etude. To play that etude at such a fantastic tempo is nonsense.

But that's technique. And what about soulfulness?

Schubert's sonata at the beginning and end of the movie "Enigma" (a movie made by Bruno Monsenjon about Richter shortly before his death), he plays simply divine.

Rachmaninoff's 2nd Concerto, Prokofiev's 5th, some of Rachmaninoff's Preludes, Chopin's 4th Ballade and many others could hardly be played better.

And the most, I would say, distinguishing feature of a brilliant pianist. No other pianist has ever had such an extensive repertoire as Richter!

I read a book called, I think, "Conversations with Richter". At the end of the book, it lists Svyatoslav Richter's repertoire. It's fantastic. Type "Richter's repertoire" into a search engine.

You'll be very surprised, I promise. Some people may like another pianist better. Other pianists may perform some works better than Sviatoslav Richter in their own way. But in terms of repertoire, no one will surpass him for a long time to come.
