When people search for piano lessons near me, they are often not only looking for someone nearby. Very often, they are looking for the right teacher — someone who can really understand their level, their goals, their difficulties, and help them move forward in a serious and meaningful way.
My name is Volodymyr Slakva. I am a concert pianist and piano teacher, and I offer online piano lessons for children, beginners, adults, amateur pianists and more advanced students.
For me, piano teaching is not just about learning notes or correcting mistakes. It is about building a strong, healthy and artistic foundation that allows a student to grow freely and confidently over time.
For children, the most important thing is to build the right foundation from the very beginning.
Many problems that appear later in piano playing start early: unnecessary tension, unnatural hand movements, mechanical playing, poor listening, and an approach that focuses too much on “pressing the right keys” and too little on sound, movement and musical imagination.
That is why in my lessons with children I work not only on reading music and learning pieces, but also on:
— natural and healthy movement at the piano
— beautiful sound from the first steps
— listening and musical imagination
— phrasing and expressive playing
— a technical basis that does not need to be rebuilt later
Unfortunately, many students eventually have to relearn basic things because their first foundation was too mechanical or too superficial. I try to give children something much stronger from the start — a basis they can truly grow on.
A beginner does not need to be overloaded. But a beginner also should not be taught carelessly.
The first months of piano study are extremely important. They shape the student’s relationship with the instrument, with practice, with sound, with rhythm, and with their own confidence.
In my lessons for beginners, I aim to make things clear, encouraging and structured. At the same time, I never treat beginner teaching as something “simple” or secondary. In fact, teaching beginners well requires a great deal of precision and understanding.
My goal is not only to help a student play their first pieces, but to help them begin correctly — with real musical sense, a good hand feeling, and an enjoyable connection to the instrument.
Because if the beginning is right, everything else develops more naturally.
I also work with many adult students.
Some of them are complete beginners. Others have played for years but feel stuck. Often they come with the same kinds of questions:
Why do my hands feel tense?
Why do my fingers not respond well?
Why do I practice a lot but still feel blocked?
Why does my playing feel mechanical?
Why is it hard to feel freedom at the piano?
With adults, I often help rethink the whole approach to the instrument.
Sometimes the real progress begins not when a student starts “trying harder,” but when they finally understand what has been standing in the way: excessive tension, wrong movement patterns, over-control, fear of mistakes, or an approach that is too finger-centered and not musical enough.
In my teaching I work not only on technical solutions, but also on helping students feel more natural, more free and more confident in their playing.
This is important not only for professionals, but also for amateur pianists who want to enjoy music deeply and play better without constant struggle.
Online piano lessons can be truly effective when they are taught well.
Over the years I have worked with students online on technique, interpretation, sound, rhythm, hand freedom, stage confidence and overall artistic development. Online teaching is not a “weaker version” of real teaching. In many cases it works extremely well and gives students flexibility, consistency and access to a teacher they otherwise could not study with.
I currently live in Sweden and continue to perform regularly as a concert pianist. My students come from different places and different backgrounds.
Over the last two years, two of my students were admitted to conservatories — one in Kyiv after online studies, and one in Stockholm after in-person work. Among my students there are also prize winners of international competitions, as well as dedicated amateur pianists who have reached a surprisingly high level.
This combination matters to me very much: I work both with serious young musicians and with adults who simply love the piano and want to play more freely, intelligently and beautifully.
Technical Work and Artistic Work Belong Together
For me, piano teaching is never only about technique.
Of course technique matters. But technique without sound, musical character and artistic meaning becomes empty very quickly.
That is why I always work on both sides together:
the physical and the artistic.
We may work on hand freedom, coordination and tension, but also on phrasing, tone, style, character, rhythm and emotional truth in the music.
I often speak about three important kinds of freedom in piano playing:
— physical freedom
— psychological freedom
— emotional freedom
Physical freedom means healthier, more natural movements and less unnecessary tension.
Psychological freedom means less fear, less over-control and more trust in the process.
Emotional freedom means the ability to enter the music fully, to feel its character and not to play in a dry or inhibited way.
When these three begin to work together, the student’s playing changes much more deeply than through mechanical repetition alone.
My lessons may be a good fit for you if:
— you are looking for piano lessons for kids with a strong foundation
— you are a beginner and want to start properly
— you are an adult pianist who wants to rethink your technique and approach
— you are preparing for auditions, competitions or serious artistic goals
— you want lessons that combine technique, musicality and individuality
— you want to enjoy piano playing more deeply, whether you are an amateur or a future professional
I teach students with different levels and different goals, but I always try to maintain the same seriousness, quality and respect for the music.
Even a student who plays “just for themselves” deserves intelligent and meaningful teaching.
Single lesson – 99 €
Regular lesson (45 minutes) – 50 €
Regular lesson (60 minutes) – 59 €
Students and parents often value not only my experience as a pianist, but also the fact that I teach from living musical practice.
I perform regularly, continue working on repertoire, and stay closely connected to the real artistic side of piano playing. That means my teaching is not abstract. It comes from direct experience — from the stage, from serious repertoire, from long work on technique, and from helping different students solve real problems.
For some students that means building a correct foundation.
For others it means preparing for competitions or auditions.
For many adults it means rediscovering the instrument in a healthier, freer and more musical way.
If you have been searching for piano lessons near me and feel that this approach speaks to you, you are very welcome to get in touch.
